Have You Become a Crusader?

In the United States it’s the day after election day and the country has elected a new President.  There is a new wave of excitement and the hope for change will hopefully be realized.  President-Elect Obama couldn’t have done it without crusaders across the country willing to put their energy and belief in the ideals of the nation and that change will yield a national healing.

when facing a chronic of life-threatening illness there are few if any crusading on your behalf.  Just look at the organ donation statistics.  We don’t have people going door-to-door campaigning for people to become organ donors.  We don’t have people collecting donations door-to-door for research, so how does all this apply to you?

You are a crusader.  The moment the doctor delivers the diagnosis you switch parties from healthy to health challenged.  It’s up to you to take up the fight for you and your family.  It’s up to you to put together a new cabinet that will serve as your advisors on your own personal national defense system…your health.  It’s up to you to become Secretary of State for this new land you’ve entered by building relationships with medical providers, healers, spiritual directors, mental health counselors to name a few.  You have to become your own Secretary of Energy because we all have a finite amount of personal energy that needs to be managed in a mindful manner.  You have to become your own Secretary of your Treasury as medical costs escalate and you still have to support yourself and your family.

Are you ready for all those roles?  What will be your first appointment to your new cabinet?  How will you handle the internal negotiations?  I know you are a crusader because the one thing I know about us as humans is that we adapt quickly to new environment and circumstances.

I’d love to hear how you’re putting together your own health cabinet.  Let’s enter this new era together and share how you are a crusader.
