Ever feel that since your diagnosis that you’re actually living multiple lives simultaneously? Following the initial diagnosis it’s not uncommon to believe that your life will continue as usual. Obviously that will change once you begin treatment, but for a period of time living the life of someone who is well seems to work. It may even be the case that once you begin your journey to wellness that living “as if” you’re healthy may be a benefit and not a form of denial.
At some point in the process there comes a reunification process. You may have on a deep level disengaged from your health challenged body hoping to hold on to the memory of the “well” you. It doesn’t matter whether you fully recover or in the case of a chronic illness, adapt to your new status, eventually you’ll have to reunite so that you can become whole. If you are splintered you separate you energies and that robs you of potential energy to overcome your health challenge.
It may be difficult at first to engage in this reunification process because there is, on some level, the belief that your body betrayed you. It didn’t do the one thing you had counted on since the time of your birth, to stay healthy and let you lead a “normal” life. What if your body didn’t betray you? I don’t necessarily have an alternative explanation but to believe that the enemy is within can be disheartening. How do you come to some point of resolution so that reunification can begin and living life as a whole being can emerge?
Whether you want to or not; it’s imperative that you begin thinking about how reunification will change your life. On one level it will assimilate the health challenged you with the memory of the healthy you. This is a good thing because we’re told that cells have memory of wellness. Having the capacity to engage those wellness memories will serve as a catalyst on the physical and emotional parts of your being and that sparks wellness. When you have the willingness and the resources, reunification can be like a homecoming…coming home to yourself!
