We think life is full, busy, and at times overwhelming. We try to juggle multiple tasks and obligations. We believe we’re doing a good job, although we rarely get feedback. Then the diagnosis comes, and our lives are filled with prescription management, appointments (fortunately calendars are electronic, the old appointment card system was cumbersome). We conscious of our time and what we must get done.

How do we balance the requirements to get better or well with the emotional and spiritual tightrope we’re walking? If you think of tightrope walkers, they have some sort of pole used to balance when up in the air. This means of counterbalancing gives the walker some sort of stability.
What do you use as the pole helping you balance your highwire act? Do you rely on readings whether scripture, or other inspirational texts? Are you in conversation with people offering information and their own experience giving you more heft in your decision-making abilities? Do you listen to podcasts or attend workshops about living with a health challenge? It doesn’t matter what you choose, but balancing a health challenge in addition to our regular life duties and responsibilities can be overwhelming.
What brings you back to center? It’s the question any balancing act will need to know. Center is where we find peace. It’s where we become less afraid. It’s the place where we can learn about ourselves, our likes and dislikes, and what’s a need and what’s a want.
Are you good at balancing life and illness? What can you add to make it less scary? How will you know when you’re in the place of your center?
