If you follow the zodiac then you know that Libra is all about the scales. Well balance isn’t just for those born under the sign of Libra; it’s for anyone and everyone living with a chronic or life-threatening illness. This is especially important this time of year because the tendency or the desire is to go into overdrive. There are too many things to do for the holidays and not enough time, money, or energy. If you get out of balance won’t it impact your health? The answer is undeniably yes, so what are you going to do to combat burnout?
It’s important to remember that we’re not only talking about physical balance, but emotional and spiritual balance as well. The holidays can be stressful and for many all their family issues come up and take center stage. Spiritually it becomes a time of reflection and if you haven’t reconciled your diagnosis, it may bring up questions about your connection to the Divine in the form of the “why me?” question. Balance isn’t something just for the holiday season but it definitely should take a punctuated presence in your life.
How will you create balance? First it’s important that you know your own body. You need to know what triggers thing in the arenas of body, mind and spirit. I can tell you from personal experience that this time of year (having nothing to do with the holidays) is when my body decides to act out. I know it. I’ve informed my doctors about it and it’s something I’m very conscious of so I take action at the first sign of my body shifting. It’s a conscious decision to be proactive and that makes me feel more in control of my health. I utilize my partnership with my doctor to engage my body in a proactive manner. It reduces the anxiety (emotional balance) and keeps me from having a pity party (spiritual balance).
Figure out what will work best for you, but remember that balance empowers you on all levels. Feeling balanced reduces stress, limits the negative impact on your physical health and allows you to spend more time in gratitude and that’s what the holidays are about.
